Reports more than $200,000 in the bank. Turner’s bipartisan support grows as 2010 campaign begins Arlington, TX – January 15, 2010, State Representative Chris Turner’s campaign filed its January Semiannual contribution report with the Texas Ethics Commission. The report shows the campaign raised $142,412 between July 1 and December 31, 2009 and begins 2010 with $201,111 in the bank.
“I am humbled by the incredible support I have received from Independents, Democrats and Republicans alike,” said Turner. “I look forward to building upon that support in order to have the resources needed to win re-election in November.” Turner, who is unopposed in the March primary, will face Republican and Libertarian challengers in the November general election. Turner’s fundraising totals to date put his campaign far ahead of where it was in his first campaign two years ago. “I am looking forward to running another solid grassroots campaign in the months ahead,” Turner said. “However, my primary focus will continue to be listening to and working on behalf of the people of southern Tarrant County.” Turner was first elected to serve the people of House District 96, which includes major portions of Arlington and Fort Worth, along with the communities of Crowley, Kennedale, Burleson, Mansfield and Rendon, in November 2008. Turner serves on the House Committee on Urban Affairs and the House Committee on Defense and Veterans’ Affairs. During the 81st Legislative Session, Turner wrote and passed significant pieces of legislation, including the bill creating the Veterans Cash lottery scratchoff game, the proceeds of which will go directly to the Fund for Veterans’ Assistance to aid Texas veterans and their families in times of need. Turner has also focused heavily on consumer protection legislation, including authoring a measure that requires retail electric providers give at least 30 days notice when a fixed rate contract is to expire. The measure passed and retail electric providers will soon begin the notification process. Turner has been recognized for the quick impact he has made in the Legislature by numerous organizations. For his work on veterans’ issues, he was named the bi-partisan Veterans Legislative Caucus’ “Freshman of the Year” and given the Leadership Award by the Texas Veterans’ Commission. For his work on homeowner insurance and other consumer issues, he was named “Freshman of the Year” by Texas Watch, a consumer advocate organization. During the past few months, Turner has received many highly sought-after endorsements in his re-election campaign, including those from numerous law enforcement and public safety organizations. A lifelong Texan, Turner owns and operates a communications consulting business and lives in Burleson with his wife, Lisa.
