On 12-18-2009, at 12:19 a.m., a 9-1-1 call was received in regards to a structure fire on Little School Road. The fire, located at 600 Little School Road, was fought by units from the Kennedale, Forest Hill, and Mansfield Fire Departments. In the initial attacking of the fire, fire fighters located one fatality, an adult male, in the residence and contacted police department arson investigators. Subsequent to further fire-fighting efforts, two more victims, an adult female and a child, were discovered in the residence. The fire was considered under control at 1:05 a.m.
The Tarrant County Fire Marshall’s Office responded to assist in the investigation of the fire. It is unknown at this time if the origin of the fire is suspicious or if foul play is involved. Family members of the residence owner have been notified but the victims have not been identified at this time. Due to the victims conditions the Medical Examiner’s office will have to make a positive identification. It is believed that the victims are a father, daughter, and the daughter’s child.
Fire Chief Mike McMurray noted that in this case, there were no smoke detectors in the home. While it is unknown if detectors would have made a difference, it certainly would have increased the likelihood of the victims knowing that a fire was developing in the home. Kennedale residents are encouraged to contact their fire department for information on securing smoke detectors for their homes.
